Terms of service

Last updated:

These terms are the agreement between you and Lost Mountain Engraving LLC when you use this website or order a bottle from us. Please read them — especially the sections on your content and cancellations, returns and refunds, because every bottle is made to order for you.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information.

1. Who we are and this agreement

“Lost Mountain Engraving”, “we” and “us” mean Lost Mountain Engraving LLC, the small business in Logan, Utah, USA that runs this site and makes your bottle. “You” means the person using the site or placing the order.

At checkout, before you pay, we ask you to tick one box to agree to these terms and another to confirm you have read and accept our Privacy Policy; you can’t continue to payment without both. By ticking them and placing your order you agree to these terms as they stand on the day you order, and we keep a record of which version you agreed to and when. You must be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian’s permission, to place an order.

2. Using the site and your account

You can design a bottle and check out without an account. If you check out as a guest, we email you a private link to your order; anyone with that link can open the order, so keep it to yourself. Guest links expire after 90 days, and you can ask us for a new one.

If you create an account, keep your sign-in details secure and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. Please give us accurate details — especially your shipping address, because we ship to the address you enter.

3. What we make

We laser-engrave stainless steel bottles with designs you build in our studio: topographic maps of a place or a route you choose (including from a GPX file), night-sky star maps for a place and date, city scenes, your own photos and graphics, and text.

Every bottle is made to order. The on-screen preview is a close representation, not an exact picture: laser engraving on metal varies slightly from bottle to bottle, and colors, fine detail and contrast will look different on steel than on a screen. Map and sky designs are drawn from public scientific data (see our credits); they are decorative and must not be used for navigation.

4. Orders, prices and payment

Prices. Prices are in U.S. dollars and are shown in the studio and at checkout, together with shipping. Sales tax, where applicable, is shown at checkout.

Payment. You pay through Stripe’s secure checkout page when you place your order. Your order is confirmed once payment succeeds.

Discount codes. Codes we issue apply only as described when we give them to you, can’t be exchanged for cash, and may be limited to one use.

Mistakes and refusals. If a price or product detail on the site is clearly wrong, or we can’t make an order (for example because of our content rules), we will tell you promptly and may cancel the order before it ships, with a full refund.

5. Your designs and content

You must have the right to use it. When you upload a photo or graphic, or add text, a route or any other material, you confirm that you created it or have permission to use it, and that engraving it won’t infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights. When you upload a photo or graphic, we ask you to tick a box certifying that it is yours to use and contains no nudity or sexual content and no trademarked or copyrighted logos, characters or brand marks, and we keep a record of that with your order. This applies equally to designs you make with the help of other software or AI tools.

Content rules. We don’t engrave nudity or sexual content, trademarked or copyrighted logos, characters or brand marks you don’t have rights to, or anything unlawful, hateful or threatening. Uploaded images are screened automatically and may be reviewed by a person before engraving. If an order breaks these rules we will cancel it and refund it in full.

What you let us do with it. You keep ownership of your content. You give us permission to store, copy, adapt and engrave it as needed to make and ship your order, to screen it, to support you, and to keep records of your order. If you create a shared link to a design, you also permit us to show that design to anyone who opens the link until you ask us to remove it. We won’t use your design in our own advertising or gallery without your permission.

6. Our content

The site, the studio, our templates, map and sky styles, artwork and software belong to Lost Mountain Engraving LLC or our licensors. You may use them to design and order bottles for yourself or as gifts; you may not copy, resell or reuse them otherwise. Your finished design and the data behind it (your photo, your route) are yours; we claim rights only in our own contribution. Third-party data is used under the licenses listed on our credits page.

8. Production and shipping

Made to order. Each bottle is engraved after you order it. Any estimated delivery date shown at checkout is the carrier’s transit estimate for your package once it ships; it does not include the time we need to make your bottle, and carriers don’t guarantee their estimates.

If we’re delayed. If we can’t ship your order within 30 days of receiving it, we will tell you, give you a revised date, and offer you the choice to cancel for a full refund.

Where we ship. We ship from Utah to addresses in the United States, using the carriers and services shown at checkout. We’ll send you tracking when your order ships.

Lost packages. If tracking shows your package lost, contact us and we’ll work with the carrier and you to put it right.

9. Cancellations, returns and refunds

Before engraving starts. You can cancel your order for a full refund: contact us, or use Cancel in your account where available.

After engraving starts. Because every bottle is personalized for you, we can’t accept returns or cancellations for a change of mind once engraving has started. Please check your design, spelling, dates and shipping address before you order.

Defects and shipping damage — our remake-or-refund promise. If your bottle arrives damaged, has a manufacturing or engraving defect, or doesn’t match the design you ordered, tell us within 30 days of delivery, with a photo if you can. We will remake it or give you a full refund, whichever you prefer. We won’t ask you to pay to send a damaged bottle back.

Refunds go back to your original payment method. Your bank may take a few business days to show them.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law.

10. Company orders

Companies can offer bottles to their teams through a company ordering page. The company’s admins manage who is invited and approve designs and orders for the company. Bottles the company covers are paid for by the company under a separate arrangement with us (for example by invoice), not by the employee. A company that gives us its employees’ names and email addresses confirms it is allowed to share them with us for this purpose. Anything an employee orders and pays for personally is covered by these terms like any other order.

11. Acceptable use

Please don’t misuse the site. In particular, don’t: try to get around its security or access areas or data that aren’t yours; scrape, copy or harvest the site or its data by automated means beyond what our published design tools allow; overload or interfere with the site; upload malware; or use the site to break the law or infringe others’ rights. We may suspend access or refuse orders to protect the site, our customers or ourselves.

12. Disclaimers

Apart from the promises in these terms (including our remake-or-refund promise in section 9) and any rights the law gives you that can’t be excluded, the site and its design tools are provided “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep the site accurate and running, but we don’t promise it will always be available or error-free. Map, sky and route designs are artistic renderings of public data and may contain inaccuracies.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows: if something goes wrong with an order, your sole and exclusive remedy is the remake or refund described in section 9, and our total liability to you for any claim about an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or lost data.

These limits do not apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, to our fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, or to anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.

14. Your responsibility for your content

If someone makes a claim against us because content you supplied for engraving (such as an uploaded photo, graphic or text) infringed their rights or broke the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with that claim. This does not apply to claims caused by our own designs, templates or mistakes, or to any injury caused by a defect in our product.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and applicable U.S. federal law. Before bringing a claim, please contact us — most problems are solved quickly that way. If we can’t resolve it, either of us may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies; otherwise, claims will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Utah, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version posted on the day you place an order applies to that order; changes apply only to orders placed after they are posted. We’ll update the date at the top whenever we change them.

17. Contact us
